I went to the Natural Growers’ Markets today and when I came home, the week’s topic had been posted. I haven’t gone for indulgence in food, alcohol or decadence. Across a crowded market, I saw this woman indulging in colour and hooping and joy. The children loved her and so do I.

THE YAAN : Well – I am taken by surprise again. I don’t much like many of the challenge pictures so far this week. Sounded a very motivational topic to me too. Last week with a simple word like DOWN brought out some really top shots. This week – well so far it’s a bit saccharine and predictable. So it seems to me tonight anyways I had best go seeking some shots of my own that truly sum up INDULGE and sometimes the images that come later in the week have more oomph to them. Maybe I will look for the negative side of indulging. Or something sinister.

I’ll  take a quick look at sayings about INDULGING and see what they bring to mind.

THE YAAN : I have not yet begun to write – due to a very wakeful night. Back in a bit. I am going to Urunga – where the rivers meet the sea – and walking with the family out to the end of the wooden footbridge.

DAY OUT ON THE FOOTBRIDGE.

CONTINUING OUR INTERRUPTED YAAN.

Its 9.48 p.m. This year is just about the most ‘occupied’ year I have had for ages. It was a splendid day today. There’s a nice word – splendid.

We took the Cheery Redhead for her inaugral Urunga Footbridge walk. The family has been using that footbridge since 1948. It is as splendid as was the day. In Urunga, two rivers join and meet the sea. The Pacific Ocean it is. The footbridge leading out to the mouth is wooden. I am extremely fond of wooden things. Maybe its because I am the daughter of a carpenter. The Footbridge has bends and slants and slopes. The Urunga footbridge goes all the way to the beach now. Quite a long way. The Cheery Redhead paced it out faster than I could. She was as an American friend described her “curious and unafraid”. The trees growing in water caught her attention. “MANGO TREES’ she called them. Mangroves are a new experience.

It’s a narrow wooden bridge.   Only just enough room for passing. Now and then there are wider places with benches and a couple of times steps and platforms lead down into the water and sand. We took to the benches a couple of times and drank water and squirted it over our heads to cool down. Then back to walking past the dogs and fishermen and mangroves. My dad used to walk it almost every day in the last 30 years of his life. Once he threatened to kill himself  by leaping off the rock wall at the end. My sister said she pursued him through town in her satin nightgown. I don’t know how she stopped him but I rather think it was just a whim of his. He was inclined to wear only his Speedos, a hat and a pair of sneakers.

THE YAAN

I wrote that title before I lay down for an afternoon siesta. What is there about waking in the heat of late Summer Afternoon which causes misery and depression? Time for a bucket of cold water over my head to bring me back up from down.

I am generally fond of Thursdays. I enjoyed this morning. Went visiting out in the Bush and had my daughter’s rice bake and played with the Cheery Redhead. I am fond of those things but I am NOT fond of cats and don’t know why they have such a fancy for me. This one is known as TIGER. He comes straight to me and does the distressing rub if I don’t escape swiftly enough. He follows it with the tragic  miaow and the pitiful cat look.

I am not fond of these things.

Due to my empty headedness and vacant mindedness, I shall simply do a brief Photo Archive roam today and note a few things of which I am not fond. It’s the opposite of Positive Mental Attitude. There is something unpleasant to be found in any situation no matter how good.

THINGS OF WHICH I AM NOT FOND.

Including the after effects of a siesta in the afternoon.

I don’t like animal poo on the ground. Not cat poo. Nor wallaby poo. Not even lizard poo.  I don’t like it carried in traces on the bottom of shoes into the house. That’s a wallaby in the Pic. Out at Brierfield where I was today. I didn’t encounter wallaby poo today – just cat poo over near the water tank.

I am not fond of messy yards. At the same time I am not fond of gardening or yard work. Not fond of blackouts either. The electricity was off for an entire night after Monday’s storm. Most of the time, I don’t mind storms. Now and then they can be unnerving and I don’t like being out in a vehicle when one hits.  Whoops ! I almost let a little positivity creep back in them. I am truly not fond of asking the neighbours to help me. I am also not fond of snake or spiders.

I have trouble using the big screen on the fujilm in most outdoor lighting. Don’t like that at all. I end up with fuzzy pelicans and only 2 out of 20 of them at that. I also don’t like the nasty streak I have in my thinking. It’s a petty mind at times.

If you look closely at the Pic below, you’ll see a huge CLOWN. I don’t have feelings for clowns much – not either way. I have included it for the family member who truly dislikes them.

I really don’t like white cars. I have one. I inherited it but I didn’t choose it. It chose me like cats do. I won’t mention the passionfruit vine because my love of vines is well known. I don’t like metal or colorbond buildings. I don’t like flesh coloured housepaint or yellow.

I am truly not fond of public toilets. Hmmm. I might rephrase that. I find them interesting but some are rather grim. This one wasn’t too grim because there was a cleaning man there.

FREDERICKTON

THE YAAN: We passed through the little town of FREDERICKTON on the weekend when we headed south to Port Macquarie. A good proportion of my ancestors settled down that way. All up and down the mid North and North Coast they were. I have found a lot of Sanders Cousins via Facebook and some of them are far better than I am at putting all the details in order. One thing I am good at is hunting things down on the Net. I found a batch of books in the INTERNET ARCHIVE , written in the 1800s about CONVICTS AND SETTLERS AND EMIGRANTS to Australia. I’m adding them to HERITAGE site . As far as I know, they don’t contain any specific info about my own family but they do paint a picture of the times, written at the time – not interpreted by later eyes.

My family’s arrivals start app 1795 and end in the 1850s. Amongst them are CONVICTS and ASSISTED EMIGRANTS.

I am sitting here  at my own desk, winding down after the anniversary of losing my sister to lung cancer and I am imagining what it was like for the English, Scots and Irish to find themselves out here in a world which can still be intimidating in the 21st Century. I am imagining the aboriginal people with the strangers coming into their world.  They are a good find, these books are. Hidden away in American Libraries. It was just last night that I started thinking that the things I was looking for might be back in Europe and America where people had sent them rather than here where they were written. Sure enough – here are a few odds and ends – breadcrumbs on that particular trail home. Later. I will take a look at UK newspapers and see what was written ABOUT us here.

I have all my Dad’s letters from WWII to his family but not the ones they wrote back.That’s because their letters got lost someplace in the Army overseas whereas his family carefully kept every piece that he wrote to them.

	The Charade parked  between the Cottage and the Shed for some protection from the coming storm.
	I travel with my Bladerunner Black Wolf suitcase and my Crumpler bag.  The Bladerunner has 10 separate pockets. Perfection. I got that bag in Murwillumbah and its my dearest companion.
	Tourism in Port Macquarie. Wharf after wharf of boats of all kinds doing all manner of things.

FEDERAL HOTEL, BELLINGEN.

THE YAAN : Back Home after a weekend away. Yesterday was one of my own picture book days. Sun shining. Hours at the swimming pool. At one stage I said to the Cheery Redhead;  Where are the clouds ?  Miss 2 looked a little appalled and searched the endless blue skies for at least one cloud. Her two years on Earth have featured very few blue skied days. She looked more than a little nervous at the lack of clouds. We went uptown and lunched in the restaurant at the Federal Hotel. $10 meals and child friendly. I drove home well pleased with these February Days.

Then the clouds started coming in. My friend N.C. from a little furthe4r south sent me warning messages and I looked up our BOM.  Sure enough – storms coming. They weren’t all that bad here. A tree snapped down and some heavy rain – but they did black out the place for the whole night. All a part of a true Summer.

Now for town on a Tuesday Morning. Tuesdays I go to Urunga for a meeting.  Its maybe 8 kms from here. Not far. Talk with friends and buy some lunch. The small routines are precious. Back later.
