end of march 006

Far away on Cold Mountain, a stone path leads upwards. Among white clouds peoples homes reside.  DU MU.

I live in the Lowlands, down in the Estuarine Country of the River Flats. I am Coastal. Just behind me, to the West are the Mountains. Not especially BIG mountains , I suppose but mountains they are. One of my children lives up there and across the tablelands of the New England. People’s homes reside there. The road up is a one laner at times. When the rains come and wash away the side of the mountain. Its not far from here but seems a different world and it is.

DORRIGO – THE TOWN AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN.

DORRIGO MOUNTAIN ROAD.

BELLNGEN THE TOWN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN

UKI calls itself the town where the mountains touch the sky. Its to the North of here, past the Clarence and the Richmond and into the Tweed River. I lived up there from 2001 – 2009 in nearby villages and I thought Uki a very pretty small town. I was particularly fond of Mt Warning, the plug of the ancient volcano. However, when I drove into UKI and saw the sign about mountains touching the skies – well – I don’t think so. One mountain quite high is what I would write. “UKI – One fairly high Mountain”. That’s my sign.

Izzy thinks it should be UKI – THE TOWN WITH ONLY 3 LETTERS.

Down here we have mountains in plural with a town on top. DORRIGO. I’m not fighting with Victoria and Southern NSW. They win for mountain touchers, but I think we have the edge on UKI.

Following further research I am now in doubt about those heights. Still seems to me we have a lot more mountains touching the sky than UKI. I will research further.

ROUND MOUNTAIN 1583 METRES

MT WARNING  1156 METRES

Phew. I was correct and we have MORE of them.
