It seems that she was in the process of monster creating when she wrote the lines above. That makes it an interesting remark.

I have had a steady purpose now for over 23 years and it has done a lot to calm a rambling mind and soothe a tortured soul.

My friend in Murwillumbah, Michael, calls it primary purpose.

a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.
