DON’T LET THE BEDBUGS BITE – AND OTHER ODDITIES.
THE SEA LIDO AT URUNGA.
The BITIES here include SEA LICE, SANDFLIES and miscellaneous salt water creatures.
I just found this site: http://www.scribd.com/doc/14355995/Bellingen-The-Concept . Sums us up, I guess.
I have passed another nightmarish period in bed wondering what on earth is going on. The bed has been cleaned and the linen is fresh. All looks well in the daytime and then comes the night. It feels like Critters are crawling under my skin and nipping here and there. Bities of all kinds were on my mind last night following the leech attack on the Cheery Redhead yesterday and a lively Facebook discussion of bull routs and eels and leeches. What I didn’t expect was a night of being bitten and tormented in bed. Down below I have posted some of the discoveries I have made this morning about BEDBUGS.STEPHEN L DOGGETT is now my hero. He appears to be out at Westmead Hospital in the Department of Medical Entomology. I think its time for Stephen L Doggett to come out of his laboratory and save us.
The second beastie I have been looking at is the aforementioned LEECH. I am one of the SALT advocates. A good spill of salt and the leech drops off. I was going to consider sandflies, ticks and eels but I think that might be enough for the moment. Urunga IS known as a sandfly heaven and I still think I got Lyme’s disease a few years back from the most painful tick bite I have ever experienced. On that note, I go to Bellingen to meet my Girls, do a Hyde Street wander and check out blocks of land. Back later.
I forgot to mention that most deadly of Beastly Bities – the Tourist. http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/mikeandclaire/1/1300179292/tpod.html
The fact that there is now a third edition of the ‘Code of Practice for the Control of Bed Bug Infestation in Australia’ (CoP) indicates that the bed bug problem is yet to abate. Between the years 1999 and 2006 there was exponential growth in the number of new infestations equating to an extraordinary increase of 4,500% (Doggett and Russell, 2007) and bed bugs continue to be a major issue.
bed bugs are cryptic in their habits,
