15 NOVEMBER 2011 : FIRES ABOUT AND ALTUCHER

A CANE FIRE ON THE TWEED RIVER IN 2009 WITH FULL MOON.

fullmoon and cane fires in june

The ALTUCHER CONFIDENTIAL blog came up on a WordPress Blog today and despite the cognitive dissonance of me and the U.S.A. I am going work from his 33 tips and see where that leads.

TIP NO 1. Write whatever you want. Then take out the first paragraph and last paragraph.

Due to this being a 250 word post, I shall take out the first and last sentences. See what happens.

THE YAAN.

There’s a lot of smoke around today. I’m wondering what it will be like if the Summer does become a hot dry one. Wondering what will happen if the fires were to come. I saw them once come from the West right down the Valleys. I didn’t worry so much about floods or fire till 5-6 years ago when I began to see the cracks in the structures of our world. I felt quite secure that warnings would go out and that there were people TRAINED to handle the various emergencies. Not long after Hurricane Katrina, I heard Eric Idle speak and that started me thinking. I don’t recall the details but he pretty much said that it wasn’t just because so many of the victims were poor and black that no help came – but that there wasn’t anyone who knew what to do about it. He said the Fires in the wealthy L.A. districts were the same. Might as well be handled by a bucket brigade.

Then the fires hit Canberra, our National Capital and the sister of a friend was burned to death in her bathroom in a suburban street.

One gentleman of the Old School saved his entire small town by directly disobeying the orders from higher up, rounding up his townspeople and following old techniques.

The wind is up now. The kind of wind that fans fires. Its not a fire day here today although the smoke is someplace out there in the Valley. I wonder whether my daughter has a plan if the fires did come her way. I don’t worry about my son because he’s with old farmers. I reckon they will know what to do. One lesson I learned well in the 2009 Ulmarra Flood was – selectively trust your neighbours but don’t trust the Government or its agencies.

There is something truly rotten in the State.

Maybe this time they won’t  open the floodgates and   abandon their people. Then again, they don’t seem to know what they’re doing.

Now to take out first and last sentences and see how it reads then.

THE YAAN – Part 3.

Good Yaan, I don’t think – considering there aren’t even any fires and minimal risks of any today. No floods or flood risk either. The picture I put up top is a cane fire. I LOVE cane fires and miss them now that I live further South and out of the cane fields. I don’t know what had me thinking about bushfires – well, other than the burn off smoke and a movie on daytime TV called SCORCH.

FLOODS AND FIRES IN AUSTRALIA.

I wonder what others think of these disasters.

I weep for the Brisbane and Lockyer Valley People and I weep for the Bushfire People. The Natural disaster is one thing BUT the official handling of these matters – that’s where the blue flame of outrage burns.

FLOODS.

In Queensland, my friend Therese Mac, a victim of the floods writes:

Therese Mac

Drove around North Booval and parts of Karalee today and yesterday – does everyone in our country, state or city know that there are houses which are still without walls, and basically have been minimally touched since January? Very sobering…..

Big to-do yesterday in the paper that 6 of 10 Ipswich flood survivors not yet in their houses – and now these bastards scrounging for money for their useless organisation go around trying to intimidate…..AFTER they just helped themselves to my house, and did not even identify themselves before starting the interrogation. The painters thought they were the electricians! Great professional conduct.

Joan B: You know all this is so crazy, everyone should be in their homes by now, the hold ups and messing around by the government, insurance companies, and goodness knows who else, is not acceptable. I wonder how much the rest of the country know of the situation here in Ipswich, and now all this nonsense with the BSA, why were’nt they around early in the piece to HELP people, not to harrass like they doing now?

FLOODS.

http://www.tamsinhowse.com/blog/2011/01/h2ohno-queensland-floods-as-told-by-rick/

Update: I’ve walked just minutes up the road to New Farm and the damage is obscene. Water has come up through the main shopping district and the water has torn a 150m slice of the Riverwalk, weighing 300tonnes, and sent it rocketing down the river like a missile. How selective our river is indeed.
