EVENING OF THE EVE.

THE YAAN.

One day at a time.

Turned into a good one.

Rain eased.

Managed to snaffle a gift for the Daughter that is good enough to please me.

It’s a little Xmas but its Xmas.

Now I have a platter of fruit ready to go tomorrow.

Izzy is wrapping gifts for the little girl and we are to venture up South Arm Road at 7.30 am to share in the Santa gift opening.

Australian Christmas.

Tonight we went to No 5 Church Street in Bellingen with friends.

To the LONELY HEARTS XMAS FEAST. $20 per person.

Now that was a happy time. Good local food. Home made ice cream and sauces. Beautiful young people.

24 DECEMBER 2011 : IN THE BETWEEN

009

BETWEEN ROOMS IN THE FEDERAL HOTEL BELLINGEN.

ON THE eBENCH in the early morning.

With kookaburras laughing and chuckling and rousing and visions of new residences dancing in my head. For $300 per week, I could rent a fine old house but I won’t have $300 per week. For now I look at another small cottage on another small hill overlooking another small river and next door to the owners in the big house and the STONE PILLOW dream returns. I would like to live in Bellingen town for a time but there seems to be nothing I can afford ‘at the moment’.  Once again, I look at moving in the strange nomadic life of the single woman renter and am weary at the prospect – so I am sitting here – between homes once more. Between lifestyles. Teetering as a pensioner, between realities.

We came late to living together, the man I am with and me. It seems to me that old ways are deeply embedded and the cracks keep reappearing no matter how we try to seal them up. Its my personal Christchurch. I am as shaken as some of the people I watched on television last night. Like them – I am not sure I can go on living in this City of 2. Like them, the way out looks tough.

Between times once more.

I like the slanting, troubling angle in the 2nd image. It reminds me of the pebble in the monk’s sandal.

I don’t know how I missed this post last week. Take a look.

That is a top post. I liked the mask on till I turned 60. Something changed then and I have turned to face myself. Distressing and oddly reassuring. I shall ask Izzy to tell me his story about the coup-le with barnacles and then I will pass it on to you.
