NEARING THE END OF APRIL 2012 : DAY TO DAY SIGHTS

kates visit 021

KATI B IN THE BEER GARDEN OF CHINDERAH HOTEL IN 2006.

I have always liked the horrified look on her face but cannot recall what it was that she was looking at.

THE YAAN : The hay bales are in the paddock down near the garlic and the breezes have cooled somewhat. The Cheery redhead is going fishing with her Dad while her Mum studies for her teaching degree and the man is in his music room. Its Sunday. I have been looking at other blogs this week. Always interested in the lifestyles of the Other ad still disinclined to write many words so I shall simply post some more images of day to day things from my own life and take a look at YOUR life as well. We, once again, have toilet paper with patterns of ships and sea shells and the words “SAIL AWAY” printed on it.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE : TOGETHER.

TOGETHER IN THE ATTIC ROOM OF A HOUSE IN ULMARRA DURING THE FLOODS OF 2009.

FLOODS RECEDE 015

This is my placeholder for the TOGETHER challenge. 7 days flooded in our house. Just the two of us together.

FLOODS RECEDE 014

I have included the BANGARRA DANCE COMPANY. Together in dance. After the Floods, the Brolgas came to the back of the house and danced. The BROLGA dance is one of those featured by BANGARRA.

_______________________________________________________________

A really poor quality shot of the BROLGAS taken from a distance on my little camera. That doesn’t matter to me because of the miraculous sight of the Brolgas. 8 came to our backyard to dance and across the paddocks were 100 or more. A brolga stands nearly as tall as me. As soon as the water dropped from the paddocks, they were there.

THE YAAN : I would like to rant and bemoan the state of the world but due to having the complex and twisted personality of the Addict, I cannot allow myself too much of that, unsupervised, without venturing into dark and vicious realms of the Spirit. As a treatment for my outrage at the Age of Absurdity, I take a wee while each day to PROTEST. That’s my plan for this morning, followed by more Fairy Tales of Triflora.

METHINKS SHE DOTH PROTEST.

040

I live in rich farming country. Potato growing country. Amongst many other things Yesterday we ate potato chips from a local shop and commented on how good they were.  When I was packing away the box we brought our food home in, I found that they were imported from Belgium.  Belgium to Bellingen. Right across the World. WHY ? WHY? WHY?  What’s more they will last until July of next year. Is that truly food ?

I live a half hour from Dorrigo.

http://www.dorrigo.com/business/dining-cafe/98-lick-the-spoon.html

BUT NO ! WE  SEND TO BELGIUM FOR OUR FRIES. http://www.mydibel.be/NL/Home.aspx MY DIBEL !

I have nothing against Belgium but I have a lot against my potato fries coming all the way from here to there and now Dorrigo doesn’t even have its potato festival anymore.

Maybe its simply a mistake and they think the chips are going t Bellingen in Belgium. http://www.distance-calculator.co.uk/miles-from-ukkel–belgium-to-bellingen–belgium.htm

THOSE ARE THE PLACES IN WHICH I PROTEST.

Now back to TRIFLORA.

CLUTCHING THE BENCH IN THE AGE OF ABSURDITY

THE YAAN : Izzy was given book vouchers for his birthday and took on the very fine bookshops in Bellingen. He came home with several books, including one called the AGE OF ABSURDITY.

In this Monty Python Era in which we live, sparks of hope flare now and then. The Home Fires of the Recently Validated. Years in the Wilderness of Absurdity had worn me down somewhat. I feel much better now.  I identify with Guy Standing’s PRECARIAT. I see it – lurking. I lurk with it. And roll around on the floor laughing and wondering why I took so much of it so seriously. In my present moo of disinclination to write posts, I shall simply take my usual seat on the eBENCH, get out my ePHOTO ALBUMS and randomly choose a few shots. I am willing to bet ( which I don’t do – being a gambler by nature) I am willing to bet that each shot will remind me of at least one absurdity of these times.

TERRANORA COUNTRY CLUB.

 TERRANORA 017

Up on a hill in Terranora was a fine country club, a centre for the community. One day it was sold to Koreans and not much later it was closed down. The new owners closed it down and it sits there crumbling into ruin. Acres of land, a golf course, a huge club and accommodation – all sitting there empty. Absurd.

ACCIDENTALLY ABSURD.

izzy and wintermoon week 004

Izzy is not an experienced Camper but with a weekend gig at WINTERMOON way up near Airlie Beach in Queensland, he equipped himself with a tent and a stretcher. Absurd Result, Izzy.

ROLL AROUND ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING.

DORRIGO MOUNTAIN ROAD

kalang 2 may 08 010

The floods came in 2009 and years later the roads are not repaired and signs are up saying things like “ CLOSED INDEFINITELY”. That is truly absurd.

We now have digital TV and that means that when its clo0udy or raining we receive no signal.  ABSURD.

Same with mobile phones.

MACDONALDS IN ARMIDALE.

IZZYS MAY 2008 022

There are problems enough regarding MACCAS. Put aside the usual non-food and corporate giant arguments and consider this seemingly minor issue. Armidale is a very cold town. The Highest  City in Australia. The Armidale MACCAS was a heated environment with images of the town’s history. Not now. Now, its generic. Redesigned in the “Australia is a hot country” style with the doors opening directly onto the outside so that every time someone enters or exits, icy winds blow in and the temperature plummets. All the photographs of Armidale have been taken down. Let’s get rid of the History.

Or for more absurdity – try this one. The University Tutor  who ……. no I am not going there.

THE YAAN : I was raised as a child of WORLD WAR II. The daughter of a soldier. I am not even going to think about it today. I shall post a few links and then sit on the eBENCH as a woman who is VERY grateful that WAR has not come into her life first hand. I will choose peace for a day.

NORTH BEACH RIVER POOL IN THE BELLINGER RIVER.

099

AS FOR ME TODAY: It’s sunny with a chilled edge. We took a look at a big house to rent on the river which could provide separate living sections. That could work well for us.

I just found a swimming blog. I LOVE swimming and I like the Blog. http://swimsallyswim.blogspot.com.au/

SWIM SALLY has me thinking on this coldish day about the Summer we didn’t really have and about all the swimming pools I have loved. Thinking too about Pools I have not Known.
