SUMMERTIME THOUGHTS

sunset red

I have had a few coloured silhouettes this week with the Sun blazing as bushfires burn. I saw whales, as well. Off the Beach on my birthday.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE : HAPPY. PART 1.

MADELINE’S DINOSAUR.

dinosaur maddy

I’ve used my Madeline’s dinosaur as placeholder while I take a look at the other bloggers. I work my posts through Windows Live Writer and haven’t yet found a way to use the photo galleries on it. It looks like I will be driven to using WordPress own unwieldy post format but first I shall take a look at what makes the other people happy. The Dinosaur makes me happy because it is my granddaughter’s winning entry in a competition for the Children’s Hospital and will be hung in a regional hospital. It brought her to Sydney for a visit and a couple of days of city life. Her Dad made sure she visited the Museum and met a reconstructed dinosaur at full scale.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE : MINE

Mine. Is there a place, object, or view that’s entirely yours, or you’re a bit selfish or possessive about? Is it a feeling you feel when you look at the photo, or perhaps an unwillingness to share? I get rather possessive about that first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s definitely mine and I want it all to myself.

Share a picture that means MINE to you!

MINE.

MY SPOT IN THE WORLD.

THIS IS A NEW PHOTO. ITS MY SPOT FOR THE WARM SEASON.

029

THE YAAN: When I think of MINE, I think of the place where I sit to write. I’ve almost always had one because I sit for a good deal of the time, at windows – most often.  This is MY place at the moment. The chair is my bucket chair from Grafton and you can see the burn on the back where it almost caught fire on the heater a few years back. It has horse hair in the padding. Real horse hair. The table is from Andrew Hegedus up in Ulmarra. A proper wooden table. I look to the East from where I sit, out over the paddocks down to Valery Road and although I can’t see it, I know the river is there and the ocean not much further along. The only person who sits in my place other than me is my daughter. And sometimes my son, but he lives 1000km away and can’t come very often to visit, This place is MINE.

OTHER PLACES. OTHER TIMES. THE SPOTS I HAVE CALLED MINE.

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE : THE PERSON

A COUNTRY WOMAN ON THE OLD STONE STEPS OF THE ROCKS IN SYDNEY.

109

YES. FEET ON EARTH. KNOCK ON WOOD. TOUCH STONE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. DESERT SOLITAIRE. EDWARD ABBEY.

THE YAAN : The challenge showed a solitary woman so today I hunted up some shots of the Solitary People. I was looking in the country photos but have chosen the CITY ones. The Rocks is part of the first settlement of Australia in the late 1700s. It’s a tourist centre and generally packed with explorers – but  – now and then – a solitary moment. For me and for the didgeridoo player amongst the crowds of Circular Quay. 081

EVERYDAY LIFE PART 5

THE STORM THAT ROLLED IN THIS AFTERNOON.

002

THE YAAN : I didn’t get out and about today. A lot of my personal every day life is centred around being a little bit unwell and taking to my bed. As it turned out, I didn’t see another person all day. We have an afternoon storm and lightning now and Izzy is home from his day job. I didn’t even get into town where I could snap some pics of people taken unawares as they went about their own everyday lives. Then I came across a post by my friend MEZZA who lives in my hometown and I was thinking over the weekly challenge which pointed out that what is ordinary for one person or place might well be extraordinary for another and decided to take a look through my shoebox of BENCH pictures and find ones of people ‘caught unawares’ as they go about their ordinary every day lives.

PEOPLE IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES

stilt 091

We seem to have a lot of markets and festivals in this area. Urunga’s annual one is called TOAST URUNGA and only costs a gold coin to enter. It probably quadruples the town’s population for one Sunday a year. This year the lad was there on his stilts and I stopped for a moment to look but was almost skittled by the young girl on a mission.

We took a trip south to Macksville, a couple of weekends ago and stopped for a while beside the river. I used to fish a lot but I don’t do so now.

I reckon this lady knew just what she was doing. She holds the rod with the ease of the local fisherwoman. I was like that.

Summertime, we go to the pool and often meet up with other families and kids and eat hot chips from the Kiosk. 11 minutes – that’s what it takes to make the hot chips.

Up the road in Church Street is the Café known as No. 5.

No 5 is a music venue. It seems that Urban Hillbilly is very much in fashion at the moment.

stop 070
Part of everyday life round here is ROADWORKS and that includes STOP/GO men. Modern technology, eh?

Further up the Highway at Ulmarra, we did a gig as a favour for an old gentleman and I grabbed this shot of 2 of the musos who had come down from the North. I don’t know the saxophonist  but that’s Phil Eizenberg with the hat on.

I’m leaving it there for the night. Watching a grandfather attending to his grandchild and considering a sea plane landing outside a motel where I was staying in Port Macquarie, Eevery day Life.

EVERYDAY LIFE PART 4

EVERDAY LIFE ON MONDAY

048

THE YAAN : Dagnab. I totally forgot to snap some shots of people in my everyday life today. My mind was focussed on the second day of oral history. Doctor Kijas who interviewed me was an intriguing woman ten years younger than I am. I have wanted to bring other people into my everyday life for quite  a long time and it was a pleasure to be talking of our history here and drinking cups of tea and eating lamington bars. Izzy was of work and he hovered  and took care of things, as he does, and worked in the garden.

When we were done, Iz and me, well we headed back over to North Beach for lunch. There is just the one store there on the bank of the river and just one block from the beach. I could have sbapped some people then but I was still reflecting on my own life after many hours of speaking about it. So we ate and a storm came across. I had the eye of the camera on that and on the Honey Shop. We get our honey from a house along the street there. I did get Izzy on film with his honey. A camera and Izzy is never “unawares”. He’s a performer and he likes the camera and it likes him.

We were also hunting down yoghurt. We tried the North Beach Store and then the wee store at the Caravan Park. They sent us up to the Butcher on Perry’s Hill. But there was no yoghurt to be had. What I did get from the top of Perry’s Hill was a view of the Valley where I live. Everyday Life. On a Monday.
