29 SEPTEMBER 2011 : ESTAP : IDLING IN SYDNEY

A RAMBLING LOOK BACK OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

Just around the corner is a café. CAFÉ ON JOHNSTON .

We have had the BEST treatment there.  They think on their feet. Come up with excellent dishes. Remember our favourites and the things we don’t like.

Today I had corn fritters with mushrooms and roasted vegetable salad. Spot on !

It’s a fine thing walking a city street and sitting down to a good lunch like this. I also get my fruit juice with double ginger and do not have to explain it in detail.

I went to the Northern Beaches and was given morning tea. I have a strong liking for  sweet things and tea with rose and floral flavours.

A  week visit to a Home City is disconcerting in many ways. Glancing visits to people and places and some people and places missed entirely.

I have had one go at the Inner City bus trip. I am rather experienced at them. Some wild decadence in the city but not as much as I had expected. How good will it be if the monoliths are truly crumbling ?

I don’t think I have anything inspirational to say at this time so I shall simply post pics and links and maybe an odd comment.
THIS THEN IS SYDNEY IN BRIEF.

THE ROCKS.

The Rocks, in the heart of Australia’s most cosmopolitan city, encompasses the past, present and future. The Indigenous Cadigal people inhabited the rocky headland and surrounding shoreline for thousands of years. Then in 1788, Australia’s first European settlers-British convicts and their overseers-claimed the land and built their camp atop the sandstone cliffs.

The Rocks eventually grew from an open-air gaol into a vibrant port community. Its colourful history-filled with tales of ‘shanghaied’ sailors, rough gangs, and gritty life-can still be traced in the many surviving buildings from the last two centuries.

THE YAAN.

I went out and driving about today. I had a special place I wanted to see. We crossed a good few suburbs and with anticipation, arrived at Vaucluse House.

Its builder, William Charles Wentworth (1790-1872) is known today as one of our early colonial statesmen. His sense of his place in society was undermined by illegitimacy and convict associations. With the rising tide of Victorian morality his wife Sarah was shunned as lacking respectability and the family had to socialise outside of colonial society.

CRUCKET NANA

Morning, All. When I looked at today’s definition of FLOWER, I thought to myself – what could be more like a flower than this fine moment in my cricketing against grandchildren career. The Flower of Ulmarra. That was me.

Today, I have a grief counsellor coming to see me. I called her in. I hope she doesn’t tell me to climb Mt Kiliminjaro as one did in Murwillumbah following the death of my mother in 2001. I was already climbing my own mountains at the time and was in need of Shangri-La.

Today, I know I am wandering somewhat through Grieving and  need some assistance. Areas of my life have blossomed and are now faded and wilting and done. Bit like my sunflower garden which looked splendid for a time and then SAGGED. I got in there and chopped some out but there are remnants which need to be dug out roots and all and a few odd plantlings which just might be the beginning of something new.

11.22 a.m. Ah. Now and Then, I meet someone I like. I have just experienced a Now and Then.

We sat at the round table on the front verandah and yaaned. The birds came and the cats. She took me for an elderly aboriginal woman. That delighted me as it always does. She is coming back next week and I am glad of it.  I am going to spend some time now writing Faerie Stories for my Girls.  First a few more ‘flowers’.

Lets start with one of my Dad’s favourites. PETER DAWSON and the ROSES ARE BLOOMING IN PICARDY.

THE YAAN.

I live with a Bass Player. I have had very little to do with Musicians throughout my life but at the age of 59 I met a Bass Player and we moved in together. That move brought me into the world of the Rock Musician. Very interesting it is. I know just a little more than I once did about when a Performer is to BEGIN. I guess this one applies to theatre and suchwise as well.

THE POINT AT WHICH A PERFORMER BEGINS.

I guess that applies to a lot of things in life. Don’t come in too early. Don’t come in too late. I am not writing much today. I shall just look at the Muso pics of the last few years and do some thinking. We each have our own Entrance Points in the Various Theatres of Life.

Izzy Interview

about ENTRANCES in a rock band:

Someone points at you or nods their head.

Drummer puts one hand up a little higher than usual. The other players get to read the body language of the drummer. Sometimes the drummer leans back and that means he’s about to do a drum fill. That can announce an entrance for whoever’s turn it is to come in.

Some members don’t give you a clue and diss you when you get it wrong.

If you know the songs well enough you don’t need someone else to give you the clue, you know it yourself.

if the entrance is not open to you and you try to get in then you have made a mistake . If you’re good enough to fudge things, you can make it look like you meant to come in and usually and if the rest of the band members are as good as you they will cover for you by playing something that complements your fudge.

The other part of the entrance is the actual coming on stage because you have to keep the distance of mystique between the audience and the performer which means in the case of a band not just wandering on member by member scratching you whatevers, It means the whole band come son as a unit preferably behind a closed curtain but that’s not always possible. so that when the first note starts the band is in  character .

Even if in character means casual down to earth not really up on stage at all vibe.

if that’s your vibe then you’d better have it ready ‘bang’, otherwise the audience will see through.

Another part of that, your instruments get tuned up in the dressing room. that’s part of a scrappy entrance otherwise.

11 AUGUST 2011 : ESTAP : THE WATERFALL WAY

keans coach

KEANS’ COACHES : WE ARE KEAN TO HAVE YOU TRAVEL WITH US.

LOOKING AT A MOUNTAIN.

So, why would I decide to go up the mountain. There would have to be either a reason to leave where I was or a reason to go to the top of the mountain or a combo of both.

REMINDER TO ME : THINGS TO THINK ABOUT.

THE CLIMB UP

DISCOVERIES ON THE MOUNTAIN

THE RETURN JOURNEY OR THE STAYING ON THE MOUNTAIN OR THE MOVING ON.

THE YAAN.

I’m sitting here on the eBENCH early this morning.  Watching the horse, Leo, pee in the paddock. I guess I am a little plateau-ed out.  I still can’t stretch to anything clever or creative so I am sittin’ here. It’s the Eve of the anniversary of the day I got clean in 1987. Even all this time later, I tend to descend into darker emotions and ugly places of the Spirit as the anniversary approaches. Whispering Daemons get into my head and it hurts and tears are just behind my eyelids. It feels like I have climbed just one mountain too many. I can see the next one just before me and I know enough about metaphorical mountaineering to be able to see some of the hazards and sufferings involved in climbing that one. Dagnab it. I don’t seem to have this climb in me.

Later today I shall put together a collection of the Mountains I have climbed in 24 years of recovery from addiction. I will put little Flags on top of each one and then I shall sit right back down in the Electronic  Rest House and begin to think about gathering  together all the things I shall need for the next travelling stage and to begin seriously thinking about all the things which aren’t right for it. Perhaps its time to ride horses and wear sandals. I must be coming close to a breakthrough stage here or my head wouldn’t be hurting like this.  Seems I am also close to letting some things remain behind or the tears wouldn’t be attempting to create their own WATERFALL WAY.
